Recent developments: self-healing polymers based on quadruple hydrogen bonds

The microcrack of materials was inevitable in the process transportation, storage and utilization, which may cause functional failure resources waste. Inspired by nature, self-healing polymers have attracted significant attention owing to widespread applications wearable electronics, cartilage replacement, coatings elastomer. Compared with extrinsic healing, intrinsically healable offer multiple supramolecular reversible interactions, such as host-guest π-π stacking, ionic interactions hydrogen-bonding. Self-healing based on quadruple hydrogen bonds been extensively investigated due its high thermodynamic stability rapid kinetic reversibility, well developed for past two decades. In this paper, strategies designs self-repairing bond were classified summarized, including main-chain polymers, side-chain polymers. It is expected that bonding can be construct more robust, highly tough, multi-stimuli-responsive, fast polymer, potential applied numerous civilian military fields future.
